Pre-Workout vs Post-Workout Supplements: What to Take and When
Before the gym: energy and focus
The goal pre-workout is simple: show up with energy and stay focused. A quality pre-workout with caffeine, beta-alanine and focus ingredients taken about 20 to 30 minutes before training does exactly that. Skip it within 6 to 8 hours of bedtime, since sleep is the strongest recovery tool you own.
After the gym: the 30-minute window
Post-workout, two things matter most: fluids and protein. You lose 0.5 to 2 litres of sweat in a typical session, and training creates a repair signal that protein fuels. A shake with 20 to 40 g of protein plus a carb source within about 30 to 60 minutes covers most gym-goers.
The rest of the day: cover the basics
Daily support supplements are not exciting, but they carry your recovery: a multivitamin, vitamin D, omega-3s and magnesium fill common gaps in an active diet, and they work quietly in the background of every session.
